Simba has been the light of everyone's life since he came to us as a puppy. Always with integrity and a sunny attitude, he approached life with an eagerness to learn that is rarely found, even in Labradors. He left us in his fourteenth year with the dignity and courage he showed as he lived. We miss him each day and are grateful to see the light of his life in his progeny. Simba passed along his beauty, brains and exceptional temperaments to all his many puppies. His worth cannot be calculated no matter how many titles he accumulated, and he certainly earned a good number of those. Simba is the heart and soul of a true Labrador!! Sleep well, Dear and Beloved Companion.

Keeper" has retired now and lives with his wonderful family of twin girls and a young toddler AND a companion from Sumo called Captain. He deserves to be coddled after all he has done for us here at Sumo, and he was taken in to the Reinhard family with loving arms and lots of attention,
which is definitely what we wanted for him! Keeper" is the son Am/Can CH Sumo's Bo-Regard Arrogance and the grandson
of CH Broad Reach Bocephus. His mother is Am/Can CH Beaver Creek East Hill Sage, one of our favorite yellow girls who
has passed along to Keeper her propensity to grin when trying to convince us that we're doing it wrong or when we need a good laugh.
We're sure he'll entertain the Reinhards with exactly the same wonderful antics. Bless them for giving Keeper such a wonderful retirement.

Mariah and her two litter sisters (CH Sumo's A-Hoy Seawind Calypso & CH Sumo's A-Hoy All Decked Out), became AKC Champions in the span of one year's time. That's a pretty nice accomplishment in and of itself. And we are proud to say that many of the offspring of these girls have done some pretty spectacular winning in recent years. Mariah boasted a faultless front and a topline on which you could steady a tea tray. She moved like the wind she was named after. Mariah whelped a series of beautiful pups who inherited her wonderful conformation and sunny temperament. A consummate companion, she our first home-bred American & Canadian Champion and she represented all that was good in Labradors. We never even considered her to be a "dog"--she was just "The Nudge." She was taken from us long before we were ready for her to leave. We will miss her each and every day more than any words can describe. Rest easy, Dearest Nudge. Your spirit guides us.

Bramble came to us as a young pup from Marlene & David Hepper of Mardas Labradors in Yorkshire, England. She got her Canadian Championship on Labor Day Weekend in 1998, and her AKC Championship that following September.
One of her proudest accomplishments is a Judge's Award of Merit at Labrador Owners Club in Canada in 1999. Bramble's strong suits are her exquisite head, perfect Labrador movement and absolutely correct coat--all of which she passed along to her wonderful pups. She is retired now and lives with her doting family in Alabama. We are grateful that Bramble established herself as the foundation female for Sumo Labradors!

"Dozer" is a son two Champions, Bramble and Simba. He's a beautiful example of what a black Labrador should be-a reminder of his heritage from Mardas Labradors in England. Although he's only been shown sparingly, among his accolades are winning Best of Opposite to Best in Sweeps at the '99 Labrador Owner's Club in Canada and numerous Specialty placements. Dozer is a Canadian Champion and AKC pointed. Everyone who meets Dozer comments on his gentle temperament and his drive to retrieve. You won't forget that look once he's got you in his sights!! Dozer has been tested by VetGen and he produces all three colors. Dozer is available to a limited number of approved bitches via frozen semen. He has retired to live in Florida with his new mom, DeDe in Ponte Vedra. He deserves to be pampered after all he has done for us at Sumo!

"Lager" started out his show career by winning Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Sweeps in Canada at Labrador Owners Club in June of '98. He has Best of Breed and a Group Placement wins to his credit, with very limited showing in the all-breed ring. Retired now from showing, Lager is an avid retriever who stamps his litters with lovely heads and toplines, bone and substance, correct coat and eye color and temperaments to die for. He now lives with his Florida family and is currently working on his obedience and field titles. Lager has certainly made a disntiguished contribution to our chocolate line and we're proud of him.

Trip is the son of two American/Canadian Champions: Kenya and Ashstone East Hill Step 'N Thyme ("Ty"). He finished both of his conformation titles with ease from the 12-18 month classes. Trip now resides in Ontario, Canada where he is a nationally ranked in the conformation ring. He made Labrador history in 2001 by going BEST IN SHOW three days in a row at Canadian all breed shows. No Labrador Retriever has ever done that before, either in Canada or the USA!
We're proud to have such a wonderful accolade as part of Sumo Labrador history!!

Visa is the daughter of Trip, the granddaughter of Kenya and the great-granddaughter of Simba. This gives her a BIG lot of genes to live up to. She came to us after she went as a puppy to live with a family who was transferred to Turkey (yes, Turkey--the Mediterranean country) and they couldn't take her with them.
Our Buyer's Agreement states that if a family cannot keep a pup for any reason at any time in the dog's life, it should come back to us. That's what happened to Visa and we're so please that it did. She presently lives in Atlanta with a devoted co-owner who is schooling her in obedience and agility.

Ginger was meant to be a show girl in Michigan, but they moved to Germany, so she came back to us. We couldn't be happier.
She's the granddaughter of Simba and Bramble, and she's one of our dearest girls. Her temperament is faultless and we are proud that she finished in Canada quickly.
Thanks to Lynn and Roger Seabrook for that honor. Another generation of super Sumo pups that go back to our foundation dogs, CH Stepamgar's Masai Mara Simba, CD, JH, WCX, CGC and Am/Can CH Mardas Sumo Blackberry Wine!
